Super 8

Amazon.com: Super 8 (4K UHD + Digital): Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, J.J. Abrams: Movies & TV

The Film

Synopsis: Super 8 tells the story of six friends who witness a train wreck while making a Super 8 movie, only to discover something unimaginable escaped during the crash. They soon discover that the only thing more mysterious than what is it, is what it wants.

 The Review:

Director J.J. Abrams, like many of his peers was shaped and molded by the films of Steven Spielberg. There is an unabashed sense of childlike awe and wonder all throughout the film. From the lead characters broken relationship with his father to the young group of children embarking on a harrowing adventure. There are notes of Close Encounters, The Goonies, and even Indiana Jones. But do all of these comparisons display a lack of originality on Abrams part? If you said yes, you would be wrong. The authenticity and originality radiate off the screen, even if you were raised on Spielberg and have a fondness for the era, this goes well beyond nostalgia.

Crafted and delivered with heart and enthusiasm, Super 8 is one of the best sci-fi films of its time with superb acting from the then cast of unknowns, a score from Giacchino perfectly suited for the tone and feel of the film, there is simply no way you cannot enjoy the spectacle.

The Release: For its 10th anniversary Paramount has remastered Super 8 in 4K UHD, with audio in 7.1 Dolby TrueHD. While not a true rescanning of the original negative there is enough of an upgrade from the previous Blu-ray to make this a worthy part of your collection.
