THE TRANSFER

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released Full Metal Jacket for the first time on 4K UHD. The 4K remastering was done using a new 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging. Stanley Kubrick’s former personal assistant Leon Vitali worked closely with the team during the mastering process.

Warner Bros. is continuing their streak of fantastic 4K transfers of Kubrick’s work. First with 2001: A Space Odyssey and then The Shining, this is another worthy addition, also coming with a new DTS-HD 5.1 audio mix along with its original mono mix as an option.

THE FILM

Kubrick’s 1987 Vietnam War masterpiece is not only one of the best war films, but also a harrowing look at the loss of individuality and dehumanization that occurs to make these men into killing machines.

There are two parts – boot camp set at Parris Island showing the young men getting the same haircut, getting yelled at by their drill instructor and all around being forced to act like a lean, mean, killing machine. Part two focuses on the conflict in Vietnam itself, following the same platoon into battle and watching them deal with the horrors or boot camp and war.

Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermy, Vincent D’Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, and Dorian Harewood all bring their A-game in this provocative and visionary film.

Warner Bros. has another great 4K transfer and this is an absolute must have for anyone upgrading their collection.

The Extras

The Combo pack also Features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the feature film in 4K with HDR, a Blu-ray disc with the film in high definition and the previously released special features in high definition, and a Digital verion of the movie.

Ultra HD showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors.

On September 22 Full Metal Jacket 4K UHD will be available to own for streaming and download to watch anywhere in high definition and standard definition on favorite devices from select digital retailers including GooglePlay, Vudu, Xbox and others, and will be made available digitally on Video On Demand services from cable and satellite providers, and on select gaming consoles.
