When you reduce an icon like Freddy Mercury to a puffed up fluff piece it does a disservice to the fans and to the man himself. Freddy was a mountainous enigma that demanded the spotlight, he is what made Queen, the rest of the band is great and contributed to a lot of its success, but we are not watching this movie to hear for the millionth time that Brian May is smart and studied astrophysics. We came to watch Freddy frolic in spandex and snort coke off of a midgets head. Freddy’s “wild days” were reduced to series of montages and longing looks, what? When you neuter this big of an icon that shaped music permanently into a cookie cutter story no one wins. Also the editing sucked, TV movie sucked.
